2014 Kickball Family: The Bannings
Today, Baylee Banning is the healthy, upbeat,
life-loving 7-year-old girl of Aaron and Brianne Banning. Over six and a half
years ago, however, this was not the case. Baylee was diagnosed with
Neuroblastoma when she was only 6 months old and went through six rounds of
chemo, two weeks of radiation, several surgeries, multiple blood transfusions
and a bone marrow transplant.
During her treatments in Wichita, the Banning family found the Ronald
McDonald Family Room® in Wesley Medical Center as a place of comfort. Baylee
received all of her treatments in Wichita except her bone marrow transplant,
which took place in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Banning’s spent more than nine weeks total staying at the Ronald
McDonald House® in Fort Worth during two separate trips, one trip for 10 days
in December 2007 and the second trip in February 2008 for eight weeks. “The
house gave us a place to unwind and get away from beeping machines and
sometimes emotional days at the hospital,” said Brianne. “We gained friends,
and by sharing stories we gained hope.”
House Charities® (RMHC) has had a special place in their heart since 2007. The
love and compassion that they received from RMHC was one of the greatest
blessings in the fight for Baylee’s recovery.
Today, Baylee is 100% healthy and is in remission. When she grows up, Baylee
dreams of becoming an author. “She is a fun, loving five-year-old who loves
life and laughs often,” said Brianne. “She enjoys playing outside, reading,
pretending and garage saling.”
Although Baylee does not remember her experience, her personal love and
commitment to RMHC can be seen through her daily actions. Baylee is a devoted
collector of pop tabs to donate to RMHC and continues to enjoy stories from her
parents about their RMHC experience.
